Ficus Lyrata (Fiddle Leaf Plant) – An Impressive Green Houseplant
Ficus Lyrata, also known as the Fiddle Leaf Plant or Tobacco Plant, is an impressive green houseplant. Its large, green leaves with distinctive yellow veins are often round or heart-shaped and resemble violins in shape. This unique appearance makes the Fiddle Leaf Plant a real eye-catcher in any home.
This houseplant originates from West Africa, where in the wild it can grow up to twenty metres tall. The leaves of the Ficus Lyrata can reach a diameter of up to half a metre. In its natural habitat it grows high up in the trees, where its aerial root system wraps around the trunks. The Latin name 'Lyrata' refers to the shape of the leaves, which resemble a lyre, a musical instrument. Its nickname 'Tobacco Plant' comes from the use of the leaves to wrap cigars in its area of origin.
