Zamioculcas (ZZ plant) – The Perfect Houseplant with Low Watering Requirements

Zamioculcas, also known as the ZZ plant, has striking, glossy leaves in a deep green color. The leaves are thick, oval and firm, and grow in a branched shape. The plant has an upright growth habit and can reach an impressive height. Flowers rarely occur indoors, but in the wild Zamioculcas produces discreet, white inflorescences.

Pitch:
The ZZ plant thrives in both bright and slightly shaded locations. Direct sunlight can damage the leaves, so it is best to place the plant in a location with indirect sunlight. The plant can be placed both indoors and outdoors in warm climates, but make sure it does not get too cold.

Irrigation requirements:
Zamioculcas has a low watering requirement and can tolerate drought. Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. In summer this can be weekly, while in winter the watering requirement is much lower and you only need to water the plant every 2-3 weeks. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
